     1.    How many tasks are there in the Writing Test?

The CELPIP – General Writing Test consists of the following tasks:
§  Writing Task 1: Writing an Email
§  Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions

     2.    What is the Writing Task 1 like?

Writing an email is the first task in the CELPIP – General Writing Test. In this Writing Task, you are required to write an email or a letter regarding an everyday working situation. For example, you may be asked to write a feedback about a product you have bought from a store or to construct a recommendation letter about a good service you have experienced in a company.

      3.    What is the required word count for the Writing Task 1?

For students enrolled in a CELPIP Philippines review center, the required word count for the CELPIP – General Writing Task 1 is 150–200 words.

      4.    What is the Writing Task 2 like?

Responding to survey questions is the second task in the CELPIP – General Writing Test. In this Writing Task, you will read information about a survey question with two answer options. Your task is to choose an answer option and to write an essay explaining your reasons why you pick that answer option.

      5.    What is the required word count for the Writing Task 2?

In CELPIP – General Writing Task 2, the essay must be at least 150 words, but not more than 200 words.

      6.    How long is the CELPIP – General Writing Test?

For test takers attending CELPIP review classes, the Writing Test usually takes about 53–60 minutes to complete.

      7.    Can I take notes during the Writing Test?

Yes, you can. An extra paper will be supplied to you at the test center for any notes you may wish to write down. This paper must be returned to the CELPIP – General Test Center Supervisor at the end of the test.

      8.    How are the Writing responses scored?

The Writing Test responses are scored by qualified CELPIP raters trained to apply consistent criteria to assess your performance based on the following scoring categories:
§  Coherence/Meaning
§  Vocabulary
§  Readability
§  Task Fulfillment

      9.    How reliable is the CELPIP – General Writing Score?

Each CELPIP – General Writing responses is rated by a minimum of four qualified CELPIP raters. Each rater works independently and follows these rating procedures:

§  Rating criteria – a writing response is marked according to four scoring categories of the Writing Test.

§  Benchmarking – a benchmark rater checks the accuracy and reliability of the assessment of the CELPIP raters.

§  Final scoring – The evaluation of the CELPIP raters are transformed into a CELPIP level.

     10.  Does everyone take the same Writing Test?

For security reasons, various Writing Test versions are administered to different test takers even if they take the CELPIP – General Test at the same time.
