Dos and Don'ts to Ace the CELPIP Writing Exam

Simply practicing your writing skills is not enough to ace the third part of the CELPIP exam.
You need to consider the sub-test’s format and demands as well. Read up on its tasks. Then, develop a strategy for each one that plays to your strengths.

Unfortunately, information about CELPIP’s contents and coverage are limited. Your best bet to getting to know the exam is by enrolling in a CELPIP review center. Instructors can teach you everything you need to go over and beyond your grade goals. They can also answer all your questions about the test and help you hone your writing skills.

So, prepare with a CELPIP review program! Then, raise your chances of success even  higher by integrating the following dos and don’ts to your CELPIP preparations.

CELPIP exam

       ·        DO plan your answers.
Don’t just type everything and anything that comes to your mind. Structure your responses. Outline your ideas to ensure their clear and logical transition. Use transition signals, greetings, and sign-offs whenever necessary.

       ·        DO review your responses.
Always leave time to proofread your answers. Make sure your response addressed the question or task adequately. Consider your word choice. Is everything appropriate for the subject matter? Check for grammar and structure inconsistencies as well. Review your spellings, pronouns, transition signals, capitalization, and punctuation.

The CELPIP writing test notably includes an automatic spell checker. However, it’s best that you don’t rely too much on it. Sometimes, the words offered by the checker in response to what you are typing are only similar in spelling, not in meaning. If you’re not careful, you might pick the wrong term.

       ·        DON’T practice your handwriting skills.
The CELPIP exam is delivered completely via a computer. So, it’s pointless to work on improving your handwriting speed and legibility. Work on your typing skills instead. Take a typing test online to find out how many words you can type in a minute. The ideal typing speed for the test is 40 words per minute.

       ·        DON’T disregard the word count requirement.
While you do have leeway to exceed or miss the word count limit by a couple of words, it’s best that you stick to it. Going significantly over or under it can drastically affect your final writing score. So, mind your word count. Pay attention to the word counter near the bottom of the page.

Follow these dos and don’ts to elevate your CELPIP writing performance. But don’t stop with this sub-test. Refine your approaches to the listening, reading, and speaking exams as well.  Enroll in one of our training programs to learn more ways to ace the exam!
